iTunes put a spotlight on Mexico City-based indie pop act Hello Seahorse! as their “Best New Latin Artist” of 2009. As 2009 came to a close, the group’s breakthrough year continued, following recent Latin GRAMMY and MTV Latin America nominations. Earlier in the year, Hello Seahorse!’s track “Bestia” accumulated 250,000+ downloads as the iTunes U.S. and iTunes Latino “Song Of The Week.” In addition, Hello Seahorse! embarked on their first-career U.S. tour and had “Bestia” remixed by Mexican pop/rock star Julieta Venegas.

Since the release of the album ‘Hoy A Las Ocho’ in 2008, Hello Seahorse! has quickly become one of Mexico’s most talked about indie acts. The album was engineered by Mark Lawson, known for his work with Canadian groups like the Arcade Fire, Islands and Beirut.
Thanks to buzz spreading across the blogosphere, key U.S. sites caught onto Hello Seahorse! and became instant fans. Pitchfork has described the group as “Breezy, energetic, and slightly wistful indie pop” while Stereogum says, “Hello Seahorse! have a knack for writing pop songs that hit you immediately.”
Hello Seahorse was formed in 2005 with lead vocalist Lo Blondo, bassist/keyboard player Oro De Neta and drummer Bonnz! The band made a splash in their U.S. debut at SXSW earlier this year.
