Nos complace presentar al mundo “Breve explicación de las partes,” el debut de Patricio Castillo, también conocido como Poki Tatane, el personaje detrás de esta colección de cinco canciones que inauguran el catálogo 2012 del netlabel chileno Discos Pegaos.

Cercano a la producción de beats con orientación hip-hop en sus inicios, el joven Poki evolucionó rápidamente hacia la búsqueda de un lenguaje propio, más próximo a las nuevas formas de la vanguardia electrónica. El manejo del sampling y el dominio del software, combinados con evocadoras líneas de sintetizadores (herencia de su formación folklórica), además de las influencias en su dinámica de neo-géneros como el post-dubstep, hacen que el debut de Poki Tatane posea un discurso tan propio como global, el cual enfrenta en 5 tracks las búsquedas rítmicas propias de la electrónica, con esa emotividad melódica tan propia de nuestra herencia latinoamericana, generando así la primera piedra de lo que debiese ser una trayectoria llena de gratas sorpresas.

Mau Gatiyo lleva desde el 2005 aproximándose a la música desde distintos ángulos, con la versatilidad de quien domina rápidamente los diferentes lenguajes que van atravesando la música popular: si en una época cantó punk (Muy grosero – 2005), rock alternativo (Pilas - 2007) y canciones de autor con un fuerte contenido poético e introspectivo (Vuelvo a Marte – 2009), su nuevo sencillo “Lo Máximo”, de 2011, promete representar un nuevo viraje en su sonido hacia el pop independiente, alternativo, con un pié en las canciones acústicas y un pie en los grooves electrónicos. Tras regresar de su gira por la costa norte de Colombia, donde estableció un fuerte vínculo con la escena de cantautores de la región, Gatiyo anticipa con “Lo Máximo” su próximo trabajo: Fucsia, a lanzarse en mayo de 2012 bajo la producción del reconocido tornamesista y productor DJ Pho. Entre los teclados western, las guitarras acústicas y los arreglos de viento, escuchamos un sonido que bebe por partes iguales de influencias clásicas como la de los Beatles y de sonidos contemporáneos como el de Miranda, Babasónicos, Arcade Fire y el pop indie en general.

Por más que transite por distintas rutas musicales, la música de Mau posée desde siempre el don de la enorme sinceridad, las líricas poderosas y la fuerza de la vida bogotana. Esperamos con ansias sus nuevos sonidos para el próximo año! Pulso y Pa’ lante!

Don Cerati’s DJ sets consist of a rhythmic combination of House, Latin, Funk, Brazilian, Afrobeat, Disco, Reggae, World Lounge, Cumbia, Dub, Tropical Bass, and everything in between, to take you into a musical journey around the world and back.

Almost out of nowhere, Los Angeles’ Dillon Francis has broken from the throng of young electronic music dj/producers. With a stream of world-class remixes and releases, Dillon has caught the attention of some of the top players in club land, including Steve Aoki, Diplo, Will I. Am, Drop The Lime, Sinden, and Tittsworth to name some. In less than a year his blistering productions have been heavily supported by Major Lazer, who opened their show with “Westside!,” a Dutch House-flavored monster that was consistently rinsed by top djs on both sides of the pond, including Sinden and Steve Aoki. The tune has finally received a proper release on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, where Dillon released his “Masta Blasta” EP as well..

“Masta Blasta” starts off the EP at 108 BPM, perfecting the new Moombahton sound that has infiltrated American dance clubs. Dillon squeezes in everything great about the genre: Dutch stabs, smooth bass, and a dozen drops, making it a flagship track for the movement. “Westside!”, a co-production with DJ Ammo, speeds things up with huge synth stabs and a build that drives crowds into a frenzy. On “Que Que” Dillon teams up with label head Diplo and frequent Mad Decent collaborator Maluca, slowing things back down to Moombahton Levels while Maluca drops a mean latin hook. The last track on the EP, “Brazzers Theme,” features the originator of Moombahton, Dave Nada. “Brazzers” starts of with a sultry beat until hitting the drop where a single siren gets pitched to the stratosphere.

From his first dubstep release on Play Me Records, the heavy “Take Me High” peaked at No. 13 on the Beatport dubstep chart and was played in full by Rusko in every one of his sets for his current OMG tour. In the coming months, Dillon will have releases on Mad Decent, Dim Mak, Top Billin’, as well as Plant Music, where he will be releasing his next club EP. At ease behind the turntables and in the studio, in the electro world and in dubstep, Dillon is what you would call an open-format electronic dj who sees no delineation between making music and playing it. He has gotten huge support from the most important dance music blogs (Dim Mak, Mad Decent, Discobelle, Gotta Dance Dirty) ever since releasing his first bootlegs last year, and 2011 promises to be Dillon’s breakout year.

A mediado de los 90’s, el músico Max Masri volvía a Buenos Aires con una idea transcendente. Influenciado por la escena electrónica alemana, decidió crear un nuevo lenguaje musical que sintetizara el tango con los sonidos contemporáneos de la electrónica. Asi fue como nació Tanghetto, una banda argentina que combina el pasado y el presente con su sonido electrotango. Conformada por Max Masri (synths y programación), Diego S. Velázquez (guitarra), Federico Vázquez (bandoneón), Antonio Boyadjian (piano), Chao Xu (violoncello y el instrumento chino de cuerda frotada erhu) y Daniel Corrado (batería). El nombre “Tanghetto”  recuerda a las “pequeñas argentinas“, comunidades de argentinos exiliados en el exterior.

En diciembre de 2003 editaron su primer álbum, “Emigrante (electrotango)“. El álbum dominó los charts durante muchos meses eventualmente alcanzando el disco de platino y en el 2004 fue nominado a un Latin Grammy Award en la categoría “Mejor Álbum Instrumental“. El tema “Blue Monday” de su álbum “Buenos Aires Remixed” fue incluido en la banda sonora de la película “La Mujer de mi Hermano“. La banda refinó su show, comenzó su gira internacional y
en el 2008 salió al mercado, “El Miedo a la Libertad”, seguido por otra gira internacional llamada “El Tour de la Libertad“. En el 2009 la banda agregó a su repertorio musical “Mas Allá del Sur“. Con este disco han logrado el mayor acercamiento a la esencia del tango, sin perder el sonido moderno. Un equilibrio perfecto entre lo escuchable y lo bailable, entre lo acústico y lo electrónico.  Estos músicos prometen continuar la dirección innovadora de la banda, ampliando hacia adelante y hacia atrás el espectro sonoro y estilístico de la banda.

PAX is a coffee art house and performing cultural arts center in Miami, where guests can unwind and enjoy the sounds of local and international acts. This night in particular, will consist of dancing and complete mayhem, so don’t miss out!

By blending electronic elements with a combination of latin, funk, hip hop and dub these musicians really know how to set the mood. Their indescribable sound attracts many types of people from all over the US. Spam Allstars have been performing in cities like New York City, Gainesville, Miami, Atlanta, and New Orleans to name a few, since the late 90’s.

When this Saturday night rolls around and your sitting at home considering your options for the night, still swaying to the Cumbia Craziness that Afro Kumbé brought to the Performing Arts eXchange (PAX) the night before, please consider the following before you decide to stay in:

#1. The prospect of a night of Tropical Soul with Miami based band, Elastic Bond, will be too much for you to resist! Lets be honest, their mix of traditional Latin, Soul and Afro grooves, with modern electronic sounds is just what you need. Venezuelan producer, Andres Ponce and Honduran singer-songwriter, Sofy Encanto, formed the band in 2006, and soon after guitarist Buffalo Brown and trumpet player David Burgos came on board to expand the band’s unique sound. They’re like a funky, soulful, urban island in the middle of paradise coming to PAX on Saturday April 23rd at 10pm. Check out their Myspace page to listen to a little piece of loungin’ heaven!

#2. The idea of a double nighter at PAX may not be appealing to you, but fret not….you are not breaking any socialite rules! The Performing Arts eXchange is the place to be. It’s coffeehouse feel, it’s consideration for the environment, it’s amazing interior design….it’s focus on the music and musicians, is worth a second visit! (and a third and a fourth, etc…)

We are SurAmerican dancefloor rockers!

This time we have a few surprises. First off there will be no charge this time around, call it a little spring gift for those that have been following faithfully. Secondly, the sounds that you will be tuning into will be from all over South America….Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and everywhere in between and further..

Starting off the night we have Mr. Pauer (Fabrika, Venezuela via Miami) whose music can be best described by a line from his interview with NPR, “take a few beats of electronica, shake it with South American rhythms and you’ll end up with a mixture called ‘electropical’” Besides being a DJ/producer, he is also founder of the arts/music magazine www.fabrikalink.com. Rest assured he’ll be bringing  the Venezuelan funk. Electropicacion!!!

To keep things heated DJ Stepwise (Galang Radio, Argentina via San Francisco) will be bringing some of his Caribeño heat. He’s a selectah, producer, remixer,  has DJed across the world, sharing the stage with some of reggae/dancehall‘s heaviest and laid down tunes on many of the big bass soundsystems. You can also hear his Argentine twang on www.galangradio.com, where he shares his sound/DJ knowledge with the world, especially Latin America.…100% good vibes!!!

Last, but certainly not least, we have el señor Juanderful (Mundial, Pulsobeat, Colombia via Philly) who keeps putting together awesome lineups for the TROPICALISMO events and makes sure things keep moving smoothly. El residente that gets you started with all the Tropi-Funk he can dig up. He’ll keep digging hard to bring you the different funky tropical sounds from round the globe.
