Tropicalismo is back again this Thurs Oct 21st with DJ /rupture!

A big thanks to everyone who came out to the debut of TROPICALISMO with Uproot Andy.  They  were the City Paper’s DJ pick of the week, Phillyist came by with the camera in tow, and they even got press from as far away as Germany.  With your support, they’re back on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21 at the Walnut Room with the inimitable DJ /rupture rocking not two but… THREE turntables!

You won’t find another musician as agile and reckless as /rupture. He’s performed in over 25 countries, released records on Soul Jazz & Tigerbeat6, DJ’ed in a band with Norah Jones, done two John Peel Sessions, and was turntable soloist with the 80-member Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. Rupture’s fans include legendary rock icon Robert Plant.

What’s Rupture sound like? A border-crossing bass visionary. His dynamic live sets simultaneously partyrock and suggest complex political undertones. Download his highly-influential Gold Teeth Thief mix from 2001. A four-star review in VIBE Magazine praised it as a “stunning, globe-trotting, three-turntable mix” that “captures the spirit of the best bootleg mixes–bumping, brash, and without borders.” A recent New York Times review called Rupture “a thoughtful pipeline for music from countless distant and obscure outposts.”  Check out his weekly radio show on the venerable independent station WFMU.

He’ll be joining residents Gregzinho and Juanderful for Philly’s only night of dembows mashed up with folk tunes, crunked out cumbia, dancehall mania en español, coupé décale colliding with hip-hop, Carnival mass hysteria, kuduro avec grande vitesse, soca-fied funky house. C’mon out and feel the world dance at Tropicalismo‘s second night!

Thursday, October 21 at Walnut Room.  9 pm – 2 am with complimentary Don Q cocktails.
